Regeneration by catalyst activity is recovered by controlled combustion of the spent catalyst with air. As a result accumulated coke is converted to CO2 and CO plus small amounts of SO2 and NOx, which are formed from the sulfur and nitrogen in the coke. Regeneration can recover 75~80 % activity of the catalyst.
While Rejuvenation, a wet process in which the active metals are chemically re-dispersed. A combination of regeneration and rejuvenation can restore a catalyst to more than 95% of its original activity.
